Allow us to introduce ourselves! We are Mark and Beth Rogers, natives of Northern Virginia. We have always been country folk at heart. We both grew up with dreams of living off the land -- hunting, raising livestock, gardening, and preserving food. Finally in 2011, with most of the kids having left the nest, we moved an hour west to an 1800's farm house in beautiful Markham, Virginia. This dream country property quickly turned into a working farm and a wonderful place to live.
Many thanks to those who have gone before us, with their many innovations, use of modern-day technology, and a revival of ethical humane practices. These methods are not new by any means, but rather, a return to the older ways of farming, while incorporating new technologies of recent decades. We appreciate the work and the books of Joel Salatin, Harvey Ussery, Forrest Pritchard, and many other small farmers, all of whom have braved the elements and risked their reputations to put forth a better way to farm, sharing with us a better way to both healthy farming and healthy eating.
Our feed for our layer hens and for the broiler chickens (when we raise them) comes from Sunrise Farm in the Shenandoah---they grow and mill non-GMO, all-natural feed, all locally grown.
Our abattoir (slaughter processing plant) is Blue Ridge Meats located nearby in Front Royal. This family-run operation is certified humane, and offer many great cuts and processed meats like sausage and snack sticks. All meat sold is USDA inspected.
Our hay for the cattle is purchased from a local farmer who practices healthy farming methods.
